The Shepherd Center is an interfaith outreach of compassion, education, assistance,
and support for all in our community.  Through our faith conviction, we equip the least
among us by:
  • Feeding the hungry
  • Clothing the Poor
  • Proving a place for all to give and receive hope.
  • Creating opportunities for personal empowerment

In 1974 the Shepherd Center began when a few volunteers collectively decided to
provide food, clothing and compassion to those in need in the immediate area.

In recent years, because of the support of our financial donors and volunteers, we are
now the largest, most comprehensive service of its kind north of Clearwater and
extending up into Southwestern Pasco County.

Sevices:
  • Free, hot meal everyday of the week as well as basic clothing
  • Grocery and hygiene supplements
  • Personal case management assistance
  • Planning for success via education, vocational training, and employment
opportunities that enable clients to break the poverty cycle.

Demand for services:
Families eligible for basic survival assistance are increasing in our area.  The rate of
"extreme Poverty" just for children in Florida (13%) exceeds the national average (9%).
Our records show that we currently:
  • Distribute over 300,000 pounds of food to households and pantries just in the
    Tarpon Springs area.
  • Serve over 40,000 hot meals to our patrons, seven days per week.
  • Distribute groceries for over 57,750 meals to 4,358 households.
  • Distribute 600 Thanksgiving food baskets and another 600 baskets at Christmas to
    community families.
  • Provide 122 families, including 319 at-risk children with Christmas presents and
    supplies during our Adopt-a-Family program.
  • Manage over 800 complex hardship cases duriing the year.
  • Support over 1,100 active households who depend on us for their basic needs.
  • Have 150 volunteers who log in over 20,000 hours providing these services
    throughout the year.
  • Distribute over 30,000 items including clothing, furnishing, books, toys, hygienic
supplies and more free of charge (or virtually so) to our community.
